I think many people think that by forgiving it means you have to accept them into your life. In the case of the narc, you can forgive and forget and move on with your life, but that doesn't mean they have to move on with you. The best thing is to let go of what they did, how they made you feel, and realize it wasn't you, but them and their own insecurities that were the real problem. Letting go of not just what they did, but letting them go and moving on with your own life with the knowledge that they have no power over you.
